Buachaille Etive Mor

“The Shepherd”

The Buachaille Etive Mor is a large mountain ridge in the Highlands of Scotland which sits at the head of the Glen Etive, conjuring the image of a great shepherd leading the way forward. The Scottish Gaelic name is often referred to simply as ‘The Buachaille’, which means shepherd or herdsmen, and has also been referred to as The Great Herdsmen of Etive Mor.

When I have stood at this impressive location, taking in its dramatic surroundings, I am reminded of two promises that God gives me about His character;

He is my rock; the firm foundation to which I can build my trust upon, and a mighty fortress to which I can find strength.

He is my Shepherd; He promises that he knows me like a shepherd knows his sheep, and has proved himself to be the “Good Shepherd” by showing me the great lengths He would go to call me his own.

As Psalm 23 so eloquently states; “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.”

With Jesus The Shepherd as my guide, I rest on that rock through life’s windswept moors to lead me gently into the high places of His distant land.
